Egyptian Museum

Founded in 1902, the Egyptian Museum sits at the heart of Cairo next to Tahrir Square in Downtown Cairo. The museum hosts over 120,000 artifacts spanning from the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt in 2700 BC to the Roman period of 600 AD. Here you can find Mummies, statues, jewelry, paintings, tools, weapons and more from Ancient Egypt. Some of the objects and artifacts were moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum, while most of the collections remain in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir. The museum in Tahrir will remain the major spot to experience Ancient Egyptian heritage, even after the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
