Monastery of Saint Samuel the Confessor

Dating back to the 3rd century when Egyptian Christians were suffering from persecution under the Romans, many monks fled to the western desert to find shelter and thus created the monastery. Despite being abandoned and rediscovered many times through its history, the monastery still stands today and is under use despite all challenges. Many people visit to find peace or inspiration through the monks that live there.
