Safaga

Founded in 282 BC, it is believed to be founded by a satyr who called the city Philotera in honor of the deceased sister of Pharaoh Ptolemy II Philadelphus. It was previously known as a merchant and port city; today it hosts numerous aquatics activities. In 1993, it hosted the World Windsurfing Championships.
