Saint Catherine Monastery

Built between 548 and 565 AD, the St. Catherine Monastery is one of the oldest functioning Christian monasteries and has the world’s oldest continually operating library. This monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is found on the infamous Mount Sinai, which is believed to be the location where Moses encountered the Burning Bush as told in the Bible. The monastery is an impressive structure with tall stone walls built around it for defense. The monastery carries great significance to the Christian, Muslim, and Jewish world. Popular places of interest to visit within the monastery include the famous skull room, the olive grove, the main chapel, and the library museum.
