The Great Sphinx

The Great Sphinx is the oldest monumental sculpture in the world; it was carved out of a single massive stone and remains one of the largest statues in the world. The statue is of a mythical creature, the body of a lion and the head of Pharaoh King Khafre. It was built to resurrect the soul of the pharaoh by channeling the power of the sun and other gods. While being one of the world's most renowned landmarks in history, it's a monument that carries much mystery with its missing nose and beard. As there were many foreign conquerors, emperors, and leaders that visited the Great Sphinx when they came to Egypt that were known for destroying and stealing Egyptian statues.
