Zamalek/ Gezira

Developed in the 1860’s as part of Khedive Ismail’s extravagant preparations for the opening of the Suez Canal, the Gezira which translates to “the island,” was built to be an island garden for the lavish Gezira Palace. The Gezira is home to one of the leafiest and quietest neighborhoods, Zamalek, as well as other significant locations such as the Cairo Opera House, Egypt’s popular soccer club Zamalek SC, the Marriott Gardens, Cairo Tower, Sequoia Restaurant, and La Bodega Restaurant.
